Munir, I went through this in 2004 and fortunately I had help from my partners. Looking back after 4 years, we not only made Whiztek Corp a successful venture but now is a multi national company offering broad spectrum of software services.

Key is to identify a business vertical (which you know and understand well from your working experience) and sell your skill there.

I would be more than happy to provide any advice. You can contact me through www.whiztek.com.

I wish you a great success!

Munir - I went through what you are thinking about doing in 2005. Today I am the Managing Partner for Net-Flow Solutions - a full service IT consulting firm based in Atlanta, GA. I have grown the company from just me, to a multi-million dollar organization in less than two years. I would be more than happy to offer ideas and give advice. You can reach me through our website at www.net-flowsolutions.com, we are always looking for business partners.

My best advice in IT consulting is look for reoccurring revenue streams... Don't think break fix support, and understand that project based consulting as a 1 man show is good until the project ends... in IT consulting certifications are key - Microsoft Certified Partner, Microsoft Gold Partner, Cisco Partner, etc...
