Bringing a killer new product to market
Alan wants to know how he can get a manufacturer interested in making his product. Have you pitched a new product idea to a company? How did you do it?
What is it?
But only answer that if you have money to invest.
I developed a very simple product, Chic Peeks by MYSS http://www.ChicPeeks.com . I launched last month and have been on CNBC's Big Idea with Donny Duetsch 3 times, and have picked up a ton of credibility from potential accounts and press agencies.
It was relatively simple finding a manufacturer domestically, but now that the demand is growing I am looking to go overseas to enable Chic Peeks to be a more mass retail item.
We recently developed out own line of finishing irons that we just released to the market. We did market research with our stylists as well as hair stylists nationwide. The product of all our labor is the KWOF Finishing Iron. It can be viewed at http://www.phibeauty.com we came up with the idea, flew to Korea and found a manufacture to make the prototype. Then we approached the SBA for a loan, and it has been great since then. We then did a press release and the distributors came calling. We are now doing 2,000,000+ in sales per year!
It all begins with customer demand and the market potential. The bigger the manufacturer (or distributor if you are looking for a sales channel), etc.), then the bigger the demand and market potential. My company has a product called MyOnlineToolbox that targets an evolving market of tech savvy contractors in home repair and remodeling. We found it interesting that we were easily able to have dialogue with all the major players (without naming names) which clearly made us realize that the demand and potential is there. You need to clearly indentify what your product is, what problem it solves and how big of an opportunity you will have. And don't forget … the manufacturer/distributor will want to know what is in it for them, not just yourself.
