How Can I Write Off Defective Imports?
Christopher wants to know how to handle write offs for defective imports on his taxes. Do you have experience with defective imports? How did you handle the situation?
Charge back the supplier and make sure you implement a robust Quality system, there is no way I know of no way to write defective goods off on taxes .I have spent 20+ years developing global quality supply chain systems to protect american companies and Customers. http://www.vwebpartners.com
I work for a company that manufactures electronic parts in Taiwan. The labor cost in Taiwan in about 20 times cheaper than in Canada. What you pay is what you get. Our customers started to report devices failing after few months as a result of fungus spreading over circuit boards. Apparently Taiwanese does not properly wash, clean and follow the clean procedures of precise manufacturing process. Same with China.
We are now getting back to North American manufacturing, back to ISO 9002 standards, back to quality, back to higher labor costs, back to doing business the way it makes sense. It will cost higher, but we will be able to deliver quality and standards that our customers expect from us.
Back to your original question – why should taxpayers pay extra for your offshore-cheaply-made-cra*p?
