It's the same situation in New Jersey. I have paid into the state unemployment fund for 15 years, but I am unable to collect unemployment because I am a principal in the company. I have spoken to representatives from the state labor board and if I dissolve the company I MAY be able to collect. Each case is reviewed and the laws are not cut and dried. Another problem in New Jersey is health insurance. When purchased through the company my family plan is approximately $800 per month. If I purchase the same plan as an individual the cost doubles.

I have been self employed since 1989....in the state of MI.....

I am out of business as of 1/31/2009......I terminated my salary as of 12/31/08. I own 100% of the company, have been a W2 Employee of the corporation since 1989.....

I was granted 7 weeks of unemployment benefits, which I have exhausted.......

My business has over $21,000. in access in the UIA fund......I am single, no other income......

Please advise me to fight this unfair law in MI. I have protested this and waiting for a hearing date. I dont want to lose my home.

Please do not use my name.....Thank you.
